This striking Orthodox cross is a deeply symbolic work of sacred art, rich in traditional iconography and spiritual meaning. Every side of the pendant is filled with images that proclaim Christ’s victory, the witness of the saints, and the mystery of divine presence.

On the front, the cross bears the Crucifixion of Christ. Around Him appears the familiar Church Slavonic inscription ІС ХС, the abbreviation for Jesus Christ, together with НИ КА, meaning “conquers” or “is victorious.” Above Christ is ІНЦІ, the Church Slavonic form of the inscription “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.” At the top bail is the image of the Holy Trinity, adding a profound theological dimension to the piece.

The front also includes holy figures surrounding the Crucifixion. On the upper left is St. Mary Magdalene, and on the upper right is St. Joseph of Arimathea. Beneath the Cross stand the Mother of God and St. John the Theologian, following the traditional Gospel composition of the Crucifixion. At the bottom is the skull at the foot of the Cross, recalling Golgotha and Christ’s victory over death.

The reverse side continues this sacred message with equally meaningful imagery. On the bail is the image of Christ, again marked with the inscription ІС ХС. At the center stands St. Leonidas of Alexandria, a martyr of the early Church who is honored as the patron saint of large families and fathers. His presence gives this cross an especially powerful meaning, speaking not only of faith and endurance, but also of spiritual fatherhood, sacrifice, and steadfast devotion.

The reverse also includes additional saints connected to the Passion tradition. St. Mary of Cleophas, one of the Myrrhbearers and one of the Three Marys at the tomb of Christ, is traditionally associated with pilgrims to the Holy Land and caretakers. St. Longinus, remembered as the soldier whose eyesight was healed through contact with the blood of Christ, is venerated as the patron saint of the blind, those with poor eyesight, conversions, and lost objects. Their presence adds yet another layer of meaning to the cross, linking it to witness, repentance, healing, and faithful devotion.

Taken as a whole, this pendant is far more than jewelry. The words ІС ХС НИКА proclaim the triumph of Christ, while ІНЦІ recalls the Gospel account of the Crucifixion. The Holy Trinity, the saints at Golgotha, and the witness of St. Leonidas of Alexandria all come together to create a cross filled with meaning, courage, sacrifice, and hope. It is a powerful confession of faith and a lasting reminder of Christ’s victory over death.
