On the front, the cross bears the image of the Crucifixion of Christ. Around Him appears the traditional Church Slavonic inscription ІС ХС НИКА — “Jesus Christ conquers.” In Orthodox tradition, ІС ХС is the abbreviated form of the name Jesus Christ, while НИКА means “conquers” or “is victorious.” Above Christ is the inscription ЦРЬ СЛАВЫ, meaning “King of Glory,” proclaiming that the One crucified on the Cross is also the victorious Lord.
