This Orthodox Cross Necklace is rich with sacred imagery, Church Slavonic inscriptions, and traditional Christian symbolism. Every side of the piece is filled with meaning — from the Crucifixion on the front, to the saints, angels, and prayerful inscriptions throughout the necklace.
At the center of the front is the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Around Christ are the traditional Church Slavonic inscriptions:
ІС ХС — the abbreviated form of Jesus Christ.
ЦРЬ СЛАВЫ — “King of Glory,” proclaiming that the One crucified on the Cross is also the victorious Lord.
ІНЦІ — the inscription placed above Christ on the Cross, meaning “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.”
НИКА — “Conquers” or “is victorious,” declaring Christ’s victory over sin, death, and evil.
Together, these inscriptions make the cross not only a piece of jewelry, but a powerful confession of faith: Jesus Christ conquers.
The side of the cross is engraved all around with the Jesus Prayer in Church Slavonic:
Господи Іисусе Христе, Сыне Божій, помилуй мя грѣшнаго
“Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
This prayer is one of the most beloved prayers in Eastern Christian tradition. It surrounds the cross like a continuous prayer of protection, humility, repentance, and trust in God.
The front bail features Спас Нерукотворний — Christ “Not Made by Hands,” a sacred image of the face of Christ known in Eastern Christian tradition as a sign of divine presence and mercy. On the back of the bail is St. George, the holy warrior and martyr, traditionally associated with courage, victory over evil, and spiritual strength.
On the back of the cross, the center features a Cherubim, a powerful angelic symbol of heavenly presence, protection, and divine glory. Above is St. Nicholas, one of the most beloved saints of the Christian world, known as a protector of children, travelers, sailors, the poor, and those in need.
At the bottom is Archangel Michael, the heavenly commander and defender against evil. He is especially venerated as a protector, spiritual warrior, and guardian in times of danger.
On the sides are St. Demetrius and St. Panteleimon.
St. Demetrius is honored as a holy martyr and warrior saint, often connected with courage, protection, and strength in spiritual battle.
St. Panteleimon is known as the holy unmercenary healer, patron of the sick, physicians, and those seeking healing through faith.
At the chain connections appears the Соньм Святих, meaning “Assembly of Saints” or “Company of the Saints.” This beautifully completes the meaning of the necklace: the Cross of Christ surrounded by the saints, angels, prayer, and heavenly intercession.
