This striking Orthodox cross is rich in sacred symbolism, traditional Church Slavonic inscriptions, and refined craftsmanship. On the front, the cross bears the Crucifixion of Christ. On the horizontal arms appear the traditional abbreviations ІС and ХС, meaning Jesus Christ. Above Christ is ІНЦІ, the Church Slavonic form of “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.” Around the figure of Christ appears the inscription СЫНЪ БЖІЙ, meaning “Son of God,” proclaiming His divine identity. Below is НИКА, meaning “conquers” or “is victorious.” Together, these inscriptions express one of the central confessions of Orthodox Christianity: Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is victorious.
On the bail appears the inscription ЦРЬ СЛАВЫ — “King of Glory.” This ancient Christian title proclaims that the One crucified on the Cross is not only the suffering Savior, but also the victorious Lord of heaven and earth. On the reverse side of the bail are the letters Α and Ω — Alpha and Omega — a biblical symbol of Christ as the beginning and the end, the eternal Lord who holds all things in His hands.
The reverse side of the cross bears the prayer СПАСИ И СОХРАНИ, meaning “Save and Protect.” This beloved Orthodox inscription turns the cross into not only a confession of faith, but also a constant prayer for divine mercy, protection, and guidance.
